The concept

Individualisation of learning is at the heart of the LSI Personal Learning Environment philosophy. is an interactive, web-based learning environment that is available to our learners - accompanying a course or autonomously - worldwide 24 hours a day. Individualisation means that you not only determine the topics, learning times and scope of the course yourself; through numerous information functions and exercises, supports you exactly where you need personal help, e.g. in vocabulary work, grammar or text and listening comprehension. is particularly effective in eliminating factors or activities that distract you from learning a foreign language, such as frequently looking up of words in a dictionary while reading a text. In contrast to other learning platforms, not only presents you with the learning material itself: with context-sensitive dictionaries, various modes of viewing, audio recordings, grammatical background information and intelligent exercises, interacts with the learning itself. The preparation of texts therefore becomes child's play. Thematic listening comprehension is trained with video and audio material. Individual exercises encourage you to write short texts, which are then corrected by your (real) tutor. You will also receive a wealth of interesting information from the fields of culture, society, politics, economics and regional studies. With the communication tools of you will stay in touch with your eTutor from LSI or become active in the integrated course forums.

Variety of courses

For the language training Arabic, Chinese, German as a foreign language, Japanese, Korean and Russian, 300 complex learning units with a wide range of topics and varying levels are available in over 60 online courses. Special courses for the acquisition of reading and listening skills are offered for Russian, German as a Foreign Language and Chinese. Arabic, Japanese and Korean are represented with courses that accompany the LSI presence courses for these languages.

Classroom training and e-learning

E-learning accompanying your LSI classroom course gives you the opportunity to repeat and consolidate all important learning contents interactively over a period of three months after completion of the booked classroom course.  This blended learning is part of the LSI language course concept and offer. The costs for the e-learning are already included in the fees for the respective course. The online courses for the basic and advanced levels corresponding to the LSI teaching materials can also be booked autonomously for six or 12 months.

Theme-oriented learning offers course materials on history, society, politics, literature, art and architecture, economics, language, geography, film, culture and media, international relations, intellectual history, technology and natural sciences. For the individual languages, there are special regional studies topics and profiles.

Informative reading texts

The learning platform has more than 2,500 authentic reading texts with more than 6,800 interactive exercises. The texts contain between 2,500 and 6,000 characters and develop language skills, especially reading skills, at levels A2/B1 to C2. A variety of different types of texts (e.g. journalistic, literary, scientific texts) of a general and subject-specific nature are included.

Integrated dictionary

With the dictionary function, the context-sensitive meaning of unknown vocabulary and other lexical information can be displayed and saved for individual vocabulary training, which is continuously tailored to individual prerequisites and learning needs. In addition, the programme offers lists of associated words and notes on grammar for expanding individual vocabulary. 

Interactive exercise types has various interactive exercise types: in addition to multiple choice exercises, insertion and gap-filling exercises, these include types such as sensitive text, sorting and allocation and other exercise types. On this basis, more than 50 didactic tasks are implemented.

Learning Manager

With the integrated learning manager the individual learning progress can be checked and controlled. A comprehensive learning protocol records the personal learning path with the achieved results. In addition, learners can exchange information with each other in the forum.

Combinable learning aids

The new design allows the user to combine the various text comprehension functions (audio, dictionary, grammar, etc.) to simplify the learning process.

Special aids are provided for Arabic, Chinese and Japanese to facilitate text reading and learning in general (vocalisation, pinyin transcription, furigana, etc.). 

Texts with audio tracks

To improve pronunciation and correct intonation, most texts can also be listened to as audio recordings.

Grammar for reference

More than 300 tables provide information on the grammatical characteristics of the word types or grammatical specifics of the respective target language and help with linguistic orientation.

Own comments

The programme also offers learners the opportunity to mark words in texts and create comments about them.


Individual guidance in a chat with the personal eTutor supports learning and helps with questions and learning problems.

Vocabulary check

The integrated vocabulary check actively selects those words that were unknown to the learner during the course and therefore always trains the personal vocabulary profile. Corresponding lists provide the learner with a clear overview of his training results. There are special exercise tools for Arabic (script learning programme) and Chinese (memorisation training of Chinese characters).
